As diasporas ourselves, we all know what it’s like to be homesick. We all want a taste of our home country/culture once in a while. In this (lighter than usual) article, we curated three websites from which Jordanians abroad can not only directly support the Jordanian artisans, but also buy some traditional products.

1. allfromjordan.com

The name is pretty self explanatory. The website offers a plethora of products, going from dead sea beauty products, traditional ceramic pieces, as well as Jordanian clothing. The site also has a variety of delicious food, ranging from dates dipped in chocolate to local labaneh.

allfromjordan.com seeks out artisans and manufacturers whose work directly impacts the local community they live in. The struggling wife, can now be productive and proactive in supporting her family. The small business owner, who relied only on incoming tourists to by his products, or the local NGO that supports women in underdeveloped areas. All of them have a stake in shaping the future of Jordan and maintaining its long tradition of moderation, hospitality and friendliness towards all nations. — Emad Mansour, CEO of allfromjordan.com

Their “Open Bazzar” page offers everything a homesick Jordanian needs. In all honesty, even non-Jordanians should take a look and indulge in some authentic Jordanian home décor, made with love by Jordanian crafstmen.

2. SITTI Soap

SITTI is a social entreprise specialized in the employment of women refugees in the Middle East. Their incredibly smooth website makes it easy for users to navigate through all of the products SITTI has to offer. The site is not made specifically for Jordanian products, but has some classics such as Jordanian Dried Sage Herbal Tea Leaves, made by refugees in Jordan’s Jerash Refugee Camps. As their name states however, their staple product is olive-oil based soap. Their soap bars consistently get high reviews, and are made with “additives, preservatives, artificial fragrances, alcohol, animal by-products, or perfumes. 100% Vegan.”

Sitti Social Enterprise bridges the gap between refugees and access to economies, consumers, and resources. When refugees work with us, they are able to provide for their families and support their larger communities. It is an amazing cycle of support that you, our customers, are a vital part of. Every time you buy products from Sitti, you are directly supporting a refugee and, consequently, a more inclusive global economy. When you become a part of our cycle of support, you are helping us lessen the burden of poverty faced by those in the Jerash Camp. — SITTI website

Another fantastic feature SITTI offers is their “corporate gifting program”. Through this, companies can buy SITTI’s product in bulk and gift them to employees, partners or clients. Companies such as Audi and Airbnb have already taken part in this program, which provides extra-income and visibility to SITTI’s artisans but also spreads SITTI’s mission worldwide.

3. Urdon Shop

Urdon shop was actually set up by the “King Abdullah II Fund for Development (KAFD) initiative as a distinguished retail environment for selling 100% Jordanian made products.” It offers one of the largest selections of Jordanian products in areas such as fashion, handcrafts, speciality, food, and beauty. A personal favourite of ours are the “sets” they offer such as the Ramadan box, which includes products such as dates, olive oil, honey, olives, sumac and more.

Urdon shop introduces a unique Jordanian experience through a brand that reflects the diversity of the Kingdom, and the creativity of its people. The special shopping experience adds modern appeal to proud heritage, where you’ll find quality original products made by various local communities, giving Jordanians from different backgrounds an equal opportunity to sell the best of Jordan’s creation locally, regionally and internationally.

Buying from these producers won’t just satisfy your need to bring a bit of Jordan to wherever you are in the world, but it will also help towards the development of the Jordanian economy and, in the case of SITTI, the empowerment of women refugees.

Who are we?

GrowHome is a platform connecting diasporas to entrepreneurs back home. The problem we’re trying to solve is twofold: on one hand, diasporas often gain professional and financial resources abroad which they want to share with people back home, but they have no easy way to do so. On the other hand, entrepreneurs in emerging countries have incredible talent, but lack access to business opportunities. On GrowHome, diasporas can mentor, collaborate and fund entrepreneurs from their home countries. Through the social media interface, diasporas can do what we call “impact tracking” by seeing updates from the entrepreneurs they help directly on their feed.

We are launching our BETA product in Jordan and Palestine. Visit our website www.growhome.app and sign up for our BETA waiting list, either as a diaspora or an entrepreneur.
