Lebanon is a unique place; despite its small size, the country is a formidable mosaïc of cultures, religions and influences. Its food is often considered the best in the world. Its people are resilient, proud and united by the very diversity that makes Lebanon so great. Lebanon is one of the most entrepreneurial countries in the MENA region, and Beirut’s cosmopolitanism makes it home to events, incubators and a plethora of promising start-ups.

Lebanon has also undoubtebly had its fair share of obstacles in the past decades. The recent Beirut explosion was, for lack of a better expression, “the cherry on the cake”. However, Lebanon possesses an incredible asset, unmatched by most countries: a proud, connected and successful diaspora. The Lebanese diaspora is scattered worldwide, from Brasil, to Canada, from Australia to France. Lebanese people are often tri-lingual, highly educated, and successful in their field.

The equation is simple: Lebanon is abundant with young talent, in a variety of sectors. The Lebanese diaspora is connected, successful, and eager to help. One of the ways to do this is by outsourcing some of your company’s projects to Lebanese talents. As we said before in the Palestinian outsourcing article, this isn’t an act of “charity”. By using these services, you are essentially combining impact, access to talent, a cheaper price and an inherent cultural connection all in one simple business decision. Below are 3 websites where Lebanese abroad can hire Lebanese talent back home.

  1. Jobs for Lebanon

www.jobsforlebanon.com is an absolutely booming initative, started in early 2020 by a group of Lebanese diasporas from around the world. The concept is straight forward: Jobs for Lebanon finds talented job seekers in Lebanon, and allows Lebanese diasporas to hire them for outsourcing/contractor work. Run as a non-profit, the platform operates through its impressive network of Lebanese diasporas located in more than 60 countries.

Jobs for Lebanon is a citizen-led initiative with the objective to address the ongoing economic crisis in Lebanon encouraging the 16 million Lebanese diasporas to offer opportunities to qualified local talents.
Its aim is to empower the 16 million Lebanese diasporas expats to participate in the country’s economic recovery by connecting them with qualified talent-base back home.
Its online hiring marketplace allows diasporas to post jobs, primarily freelanced or outsourced, destined for job seekers in Lebanon.

The young platform is already proving its impact, and it’s moving fast. There have already been over 700 job postings, resulting in almost 100 hires. The crisp and easy to use website attracted more than 100,000 visitors in 6 months. The group is working hard to partner with key actors of the business ecosystem in Lebanon; it recently partenered with the Beirut Digital District (considered to be Lebanon’s Silicon Valley) to allow “high quality pre-vetted companies in tech, design, marketing, HR outsourcing, and finance can now take on large scale projects on Jobs for Lebanon.”

2. Remote Lebanon

Remote Lebanon is a “an exclusive Lebanese lobby network of the top Lebanese software developers, designers, strategists, product managers, and project managers in the world.”

The goal once again is to allow Lebanese people abroad to remotely hire talent from Lebanon; the website is straightforward, with initial options to either “get hired” or “hire”.

Here’s a short introduction to the project:

3. Upwork

Yes, we also included this for the Palestinian piece. But Upwork just pulls through for Lebanon too; find a curated list of thousands of Lebanese freelancers by clicking here. Once again, their professional platform takes care of all the business details for you so that you can focus on finding the right person for your project. The diversity of fields represented on Upwork is pretty mind-boggling; from architecture, e-commerce to medical labratory scientists, you can find someone for pretty much anything!

Who we are

GrowHome is a platform connecting diasporas to entrepreneurs back home. The problem we’re trying to solve is twofold: on one hand, diasporas often gain professional and financial resources abroad which they want to share with people back home, but they have no easy way to do so. On the other hand, entrepreneurs in emerging countries have incredible talent, but lack access to business opportunities. On GrowHome, diasporas can mentor, collaborate and fund entrepreneurs from their home countries.
